Cremation

Firelight bleeds from the hearth;
the amber heart,
scrawling in the hallowed ash,
draws the darkness in
and sleeps in the charcoal soil.

The marauding core leaves it all to waste;
what was given to this world
serves its final purpose in it.

The ember eyes turn away;
the world falls with it,
and there, severed into dust,
the soul finds its rest.
